Zen in a Dishpan

Going about my morning tasks, my mind swinging like a pendulum between the yin and yang of it all, I was caught off guard, and stopped in my tracks, by my dishpan.
Instant meditative effect - balanced stillness.

Happy Spring 2013

When was this photo taken?

8:45 AM, May 10, 2012,
There was no one on this rural road,
so I pulled over and stopped the car;
at this spot, for just a moment -
to be.
Warm, still, clear, life unfolding -
could be any May, in any year;
where beauty reaches -
to be.
But, at this very tiny dot of a spot,
somewhere on this planet,
at 8:45 AM, May 10, 2012 - I was there,
I was there to see.

She Found Something

I stopped on a country road for a few moments and watched this beautiful female enjoy her find. She was in a huge green field with just these few wild berry bushes along the side. It was fun to see her reach for the berries that probably weren't intended for her consumption. Watching her I could almost feel the primal sensory experience she was having. The awareness of her surroundings, the prickly branches, the pleasurable taste and reaching for it. I would imagine that her food is much the same everyday, but despite routine and regardless of the vast green field, she knew that there could be more.  She spied the berries and she went for them. I understood and it made me happy.

All Stood Still

This morning all stood still as the first light snow fell.

Comforting Sound-Sweet Face

I have been stepping outside every evening lately just to hear the cricket song. If you are enjoying it as much as I am, you might like this photo too. I saw this one on a driveway enjoying the warmth of the sun.
PS Within minutes of this post a friend on Twitter updated me: this is a grasshopper :)

A Story for the Last Day of Summer 2011

this summer memory has stayed with me over the years
I am not a poet :) but this seemed the best way to try and describe the feelings behind the memory.

girl sitting
no details of colours or cloths
on warm cement surfaced dock
lake still.

from nowhere a full black cloud
kids running up the path home, birds disappearing
me closing the window, watching
lake still.

sky darkened, black clouds released
heavy downpour
girl lies back
torrent
girl still, lake still

cloud passed and the girl got up and walked up the path
I wonder if she remembers

Feathers from the sky

slowly wafting
and gently spinning like autumn leaves
from a bright blue sky

snow feathers or fractal flat pine trees
luminous and alive with colour in the sun

 Each
finding its place
its moment.

Overnight change

From a constant violent feeling wind for days . . .
...to the silence of frozen stillness overnight.

Peace.

Ducks on the lake

-13 Celsius. The lake was warmer than the air this morning, drawing a misty steam. Tails up ducks enjoying what they can before the water freezes. Just before it freezes, the water moves in slow motion.

Stillness below

Saw this soothing image below the bustle at the mall.

This nasturtium leaf seems to be glowing. Is this the force Thomas was talking about.
